Using Voice Control

There are a number of games that can be used, or adapted for use with Headsetvoice control. There are also a number of different voice control programs and utilities. Many games have a speed element to them that makes them very difficult to control by voice. However, for games that don't rely too heavily on speed, voice control might be worth trying.

Game Commander

Game Commander is a program for assigning keyboard/control actions to voice commands and is specifically written to work with computer games. The commands necessary to operate certain programs are available, "ready-made" from the Game Commander website: www.gamecommander.com A useful feature is that the voice files do not require training, which can be difficult for people with speech diffculties.

Dragon NaturallySpeaking

Dragon Naturally Speaking is a widely used speech recognition program that can be used for writing, accessing the Internet and mouse/pointer control. Although it is not specifically designed to work with games, it can be used to control certain games and leisure software, especially software that does not have a speed element. Detailed information on Dragon NaturallySpeaking can be found on the Nuance website: www.nuance.com

Shoot!

Shoot is a speech recognition program that translates voice commands into keystrokes. Although was created with games in mind, it can be adapted for almost any program by creating an appropriate command profile. It is a free utility but, of course, they welcome donations! The voice commands used in this program do require training. More information on Shoot! can be found here.

Voice Buddy

This is also a voice recognition program, using similar principles to Shoot! but this program isn't intended for creating your own custom voice commands for game control - instead it comes with ready-made, pre-installed commands for the 60+ games that are included.
